Hartlepool United retained list: Pools announce further departures and remain in talks with several first-team players

Hartlepool United have announced their retained list ahead of the 2021/2022 season – and remain in talks with several first-team players.

Tom Crawford, David Ferguson, Gavan Holohan and Joe Grey are all contracted to the club for next season, along with midfielder Josh MacDonald, yet the latter has been placed on the transfer list in search of regular first-team football.

Teenage goalkeeper Brad Young, 19, is also under contract but will depart following an offer from Premier League club Leicester City.

Midfidler Mark Shelton and defender Timi Odusina both had one-year extension options in their contracts which have been activated.

Pools are also keen to keep several members of their senior squad, including Gary Liddle, Nicky Featherstone, Luke Molyneux, Ben Killip, Rhys Oates and Jamie Sterry, who have all been offered terms of reengagement.

The club will also hold talks with Ryan Donaldson and Zaine Francis-Angol in the coming days.

In terms of departures, Mason Bloomfield, Aaron Cunningham, Danny Elliott, Claudio Ofosu and Luke Williams are among the senior players who won’t be offered new deals at Victoria Park.

Centre-back Ryan Johnson is expected to join Port Vale, while Luke Armstrong and Harvey Saunders have signed for Harrogate Town and Bristol Rovers respectively.

All other loan players will return to their parent clubs.

On the players who will depart, a club statement read: “We would like to thank all of those players for their professionalism and commitment throughout their time at Hartlepool United Everyone at the club wishes them all the best for the future.”
