Hartlepool United supporters react to 'massive' new contracts for key players Nicky Featherstone and Gary Liddle

Hartlepool United have secured their two most experienced players for the 2021-22 League Two season.

Wednesday, 7th July 2021, 10:16 am

Midfielder Nicky Featherstone ended his seventh season at Pools with promotion back to the Football League and was rewarded with a new two year contract which has now been signed and confirmed by the club.

Veteran defender Gary Liddle also agreed a new one-year deal at Victoria Park after an impressive campaign at the back.

They are the first two confirmed deals following Hartlepool’s National League promotion final win over Torquay United last month.

And Poolies are hoping it will get the ball rolling with a month to go before the new League Two season – here’s how they reacted on Twitter…

@talla6354: “Brilliant! People need to calm down and let the manager and chairman do their jobs. Haven’t let us down yet #NSD.”

@Davidjrj123: “We're up to 6-a-side you love to see it!”

@ARae61: “More great news. Liddle anchors the defence and is a calming influence with bags of league experience. Hopefully

Rhys Oates and Jamie Sterry next to keep the nucleus of the side together.”

@HUST_1908: “Completely trust Challinor but boy do we feel better now! Really important to keep Liddle and build from there. Great work!”

@_CJenkins: “Two years [for Featherstone]. The man who’s stuck with us since we got relegated, deserves it now we’re back.”

@TMHG91: “Wolfpack! Wolfpack! Wolfpack!”

@_daninicolex: “[Featherstone] most important signing for me. Stayed with us through the bad times and the good, took pay cuts along the way and helped us get back to where we belong.”

@turner_1908: “Massive getting these 2 tied down.”
