Ex-Aston Villa product Ebby Nelson-Addy can excite Hartlepool United fans says Ronnie Moore

But the Pools boss admits it may be a couple of weeks before he features for Hartlepool United.

The 22-year-old former Aston Villa youth has been handed a permanent contract at the struggling Sky Bet League Two side following a successful trial at the club.

He didn’t feature in the 1-0 defeat to Burton Albion, with Moore confirming afterwards that he first needs to build his fitness levels up.

Moore told SportMail: “Ebby needs fitness.

“A couple of weeks training will help and he will be a player who can excite the crowd.”

Moore wouldn’t rule out further signings but admitted they wouldn’t be loan deals, with Pools already having five –the maximum you can have in a matchday squad.

Clubs can have seven loans at once, but Moore admits it is unlikely they will add further loanees to the squad.

Moore added “Is Ebby the last one in? I’m not sure but we aren’t going to get loans in.

“There is no point getting numbers six and seven and not let them play when they cost money.

“We look at what we have got and what we need – we all need a scorer and without one, you aren’t going to win games.

“No disrespect to the ones we have but they are all target players, it’s the one alongside who get the goals and that’s where we miss Scotty Fenwick with five goals in seven.

“Against Burton it didn’t matter who was up there, we didn’t create enough.

“Fenwick might have got across to those balls into the area in the first half and got something.

“We lacked quality at times and the ball didn’t stick up top enough at times.

“Can [Marlon] Harewood keep it for us? Can Ryan Bird get behind them?

“We didn’t get Smithy [Connor Smith] in the game when he came on, which was disappointing.

“We needed quality in the right areas.”

Moore will be hoping versatile Nelson-Addy can bring the added quality, once he is up to full fitness.

Nelson-Addy, comfortable in central midfield, wide right or a more advanced attacking role, came up through the ranks at Villa, where he spent 12 years after joining the club aged eight.

A regular for their reserve side, he struggled to break through into the first team and was released in the summer of 2012.

Since then, he has spent time in non-league with Worcester City and Brackley Town before joining Pools.
