Former Hartlepool United midfielder steps down as manager of National League North club Spennymoor Town
A former Hartlepool United midfielder has stepped down from his role at National League North club Spennymoor Town.
Former Hartlepool United midfielder Tommy Miller has opted to step down as manager of National League North club Spennymoor Town.
The 47-year-old initially spent time in charge of the Moors during the 2020/21 season before returning to the club earlier this year as he took interim charge alongside former Pools midfielder Matty Dolan following the departure of another former Victoria Park favourite, Graeme Lee.

After being named as permanent manager during the summer, Miller’s second reign started in promising fashion with a 1-1 draw at title favourites Morecambe before his side claimed their first win of the campaign with a 2-1 home victory against Merthyr Town. However, Miller’s men emerged pointless from a Brewery Field clash with Oxford City and away days at Scarborough Athletic and Bedford Town and Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hednesford Town will now go down as the last game of his managerial reign after his departure was confirmed on Wednesday morning.
The Moors stated Miller’s decision to step down was based on ‘an increase in his business commitments’ and the former Pools man was quick to praise the club for the support he received throughout his second stint in charge of the club.

He told the club website: “The supporters have always been a huge part of what makes the Football Club special and I am genuinely grateful for the support, encouragement and loyalty you have shown me, not just in this spell but also my previous time at the Club. I would like to thank Brad and Jason for giving me the opportunity to return to the Football Club, and the staff and players for their efforts both last and this season. I wish you every success moving forward.”
The Moors have also confirmed club legend and head of football, Jason Ainsley, will take interim charge following Miller’s departure and he will be supported by first-team player-coach Matty Dolan and Gavin Cogdon, who is currently head of club development. Their first game in charge will come on Saturday when the Moors travel to National League North rivals Hereford.
