Former Premier League striker Clinton Morrison linked with Hartlepool United

The 35-year-old former Crystal Palace, Birmingham City, Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday striker last season played for Colchester United but is currently a free agent.

Manager Colin Cooper is desperate to bring in new strikers and confirmed to SportMail that two free agents, both strikers, would be training with Pools at their Maiden Castle base, in Durham, from Tuesday.

SportMail understands one of those was expected to be Morrison but he took to social media site Twitter on Monday to distance himself from the speculation.

Goal-shy Pools have scored just five goals so far in the league this season and are in desperate need of reinforcements up front.
