Pools edged out Cheltenham Town at Victoria Park, where a determined Kudus Oyenuga has scored the winner in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the opening half.

But Ronnie Moore’s side were lucky to survive the drama right at the end of the game when the Robins have hit the woodwork with the last kick of the game.

Pools had already ridden their luck at the death with Danny Wright heading wide from a great chance, Harry Pell just unable to get on the end of a cross and Kyle Store having a shot deflected wide by man of the match Adam Jackson.

The on-loan Middlesbrough defender made a tremendous last-ditch block at the end of the scheduled five minutes of time added on by referee Eddie Ilderton.

Keeper Dillon Phillips came up to the Rink End for the corner and following an almighty scramble, Storer hit the bar and the ball was scrambled away with Mr Ilderton, finally, blowing the full-time whistle.

“We are in the draw for the second round,” said Moore. “How? I don’t know.

“The referee played five minutes then a little bit more and we got lucky. Time seemed to stand still, they hit the bar and the ball comes out.

“We knew it would be tough. We never got going from start to finish, we’ve played a lot better and lost.

“We were lucky, we had so much luck in the game, something we’ve not had lately.

“But you take the win, that’s the important thing.”

Oyenuga was the Pools hero with his maiden goal in his first start since his summer move to the Vic.

Nicky Featherstone did well outside the box with Oyenuga winning the ball and combining with sub Rakish Bingham before scoring from 12 yards.
