Pools bossed Cheltenham Town for large periods of the Sky Bet League Two match at Victoria Park, enjoying the majority of possession and chances.

It was a far cry from the last home match against Morecambe when Pools meekly surrendered 2-0 to leave Moore raging with his players.

But Moore was pleased with the increased desire and commitment and signalled out 24-year-old striker Fenwick.

He opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a close-range finish before pacy strike partner Rakish Bingham added a second, finishing low into the corner after a powerful run.

Moore was pleased with the pair and says they have to maintain that level of performance.

“There was a bit of aggression about us, with Scott up top,” said Moore.

“He needs to be tougher and he was.

“I told him he needs to lead the line and not make it easy for defenders to get headers and he did that.

“With Bingham coming a bit short and turning, he is clever and brings others into play.

“His pace will always cause teams problems at this level.

“He will look for scraps off Scotty and I think he did that.

“I liked Scott’s goal because he was there on the front foot, getting across the defender to finish.

“That’s what I like as a striker – instinct.

“The second was quality, a great break and when Bingham gets in he can finish well.

“He is great at that and his finishing all week in training had been brilliant.”

Moore had taken several of his squad to task in recent weeks, hitting out at his “inconsistent” wingers and the full-backs for not defending properly.

But he also took former Dunston striker Fenwick to one side and said he expects more from him and the striker responded scoring his second goal for the club.

“I have been critical of Scotty, publicly and to his face but I thought he stood up against Cheltenham,” said Moore.

“He has to lose that non-league mentality and produce every week, back into players and bring others into play.”

After the match Fenwick was left sporting a bruised hip and a shiner on his face after a physical afternoon’s work.

Moore added: “Scotty fell out with all of the back four too, which is good.

“You have to be a pest and upset centre halves, which is what he did.”
