Hartlepool United boss Ronnie Moore pleased his judgement over Kal Naismith is coming good

The Hartlepool United boss has ended Banton’s scheduled three-month loan early, the Wycombe Wanderers winger returning to his parent club.

Banton’s time looked over as soon as Naismith was brought in from Portsmouth and was confirmed once the former Rangers midfielder starred on his Pools debut.

Naismith excelled on the ball down the right, none more so than when he set up the match-clinching third goal for flat-mate Jake Gray in the 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient.

“Kal’s got a wand of a left foot,” said Moore.

“He could do the same thing down the left and go by people and whip the balls in.

“The vision to get it and play it (for Gray’s second goal) was fantastic.

“I thought his part in the game, not just that goal, was excellent.”

Moore revealed that another former Pools star, Christian Burgess, was the inspiration behind the signing of the 23-year-old Glaswegian.

The central defender made Pools aware of his availability, crucially before his name was released to all league clubs.

Portsmouth boss Paul Cook wanted Naismith, who joined Pompey from Accrington in the summer, to go out and get game-time.

“It basically came about through Christian Burgess – he tipped us off that Portsmouth were willing to let him go out on loan,” explained Moore.

“We were on the front foot and I had a chat with Cooky, who I know well.

“Everything was pretty much done when the circular went out to say that he was available.

“When everyone knows, sometimes you can be swimming against the tide, but we were in front of the game.

“It’s not gone great for him at Portsmouth, but he was great at Accrington, 70-odd games and 11 goals.

“He played a lot for James Beattie when he was there.

“You can see the quality he has got.

“He’s not the quickest, but he’s clever, he’s bright, he’s got a trick.”

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth had allowed Banton to come out to Pools for the same reason, to get some matches under his belt after failing to make an impact at his own club.

But the 22-year-old struggled to hold down a regular spot and Moore decided to end the loan spell after four weeks.

During his time at the Vic, the Londoner made five sub appearances – the last coming in the FA Cup victory over Cheltenham Town.
