But the Hartlepool United boss has challenged the side’s second top scorer to get sharper.

Fenwick scored vital goals last season, his debut year as a professional football after being plucked from the Northern League by then boss Paul Murray.

The 25-year-old is the second top scorer this time around with five, two behind Billy Paynter.

With the skipper out until at least February, there is scope for Fenwick to make the centre-forward spot his own and two goals in his last two appearances has, of course, done him no harm.

Moore believes those strikes will have done him the world of good.

“I don’t see why not,” he said.

But Moore, a striker himself back in his day, thinks Fenwick is still learning to be a pro.

“We’ve had a chat and I’ve said he needs to work that little bit harder, on his fitness levels more than anything,” explained the manager.

“He’ll always be a threat, out of everyone in the squad he’s the one who will probably get you a goal at this present time.

“He needs to work harder on his fitness, if he does that he’ll probably play every week.

“It sounds daft, but it’s about learning to be be a pro.

“Scott has come from non-league.

“He was in the proper world if you like, getting himself qualified in a profession, having a job and playing football on a Saturday.

“He’s just a little bit behind may be in his thinking, a pro can’t have too many burgers, or chips or pints.

“It’s hard to do after being where he’s been.

“Being a pro is not just about a Saturday, it’s about how you work during the week and re-fuel.

“He’s still young enough to improve and go on.”

Moore feels Fenwick has not had the same physical impact as last season, though in mitigation for the ex-Dunston goal-getter much of his work this season has been outside the box.

“No, he hasn’t [put himself about],”he said.

“It could be if you are carrying a little bit, not a lot, but he’s probably a lad if he eats two chocolate cakes he puts more on than others but that’s probably his metabolism.

“He’s got to monitor that and look after himself, if he does that and works hard, he has every chance of playing [regularly] in the first team.

“Scotty will get goals, it’s about putting the ball in the right areas for him.”
