'Not all doom and gloom' at Hartlepool United despite poor form - insists Liam Gibson

Hartlepool United suffered a fourth defeat in their last five games at National League rivals Kidderminster Harriers on Friday.

Hartlepool United defender Liam Gibson is adamant his side can still enjoy a successful season despite a recent downturn in form leaving them in the bottom half of the National League.

After kicking off a season that has promised so much with back-to-back wins against Barrow and Aldershot Town, Lee Clark’s men were unable to take a point from their next three games as they suffered consecutive defeats against Sutton United, Eastleigh and FC Halifax Town.

There was a hard-earned return to winning ways on home soil when summer signing Chris Popov grabbed the only goal of the game in a narrow victory against Woking. However, Pools were unable to build on the momentum of that win as a Neo Eccleston own goal and a Callum Stewart effort condemned them to a defeat at Kidderminster Harriers on Friday night that meant they have now taken just three points a possible 15 in recent weeks.

Despite the negativity, Gibson fell back on previous experience with a former club and insisted it should not be ‘all gloom and doom’ and Pools look to improve their form over the coming weeks.

He told BBC Tees Sport: “I remember a few years ago when I was at a previous club and we got beat one night six-nil at home and we went on to get promoted. So it’s not all doom and gloom, we know we have got talent in the dressing room, we just need to be showing it more on the pitch.”
