Hartlepool United 'building real momentum' as Jack Hunter and Luke Charman deals announced
Hartlepool United have confirmed two players have agreed new contracts over the last week as a busy summer gets underway.
Chris Maxwell believes Hartlepool United are ‘beginning to build real momentum’ ahead of Landon Smith’s first full season as chairman and owner.
The former Wrexham and Blackpool goalkeeper has been part of a major review of all on and off-field operations at the Prestige Group Stadium in his role as head of football operations at recruitment and advisory firm Bromby and Partners. Several changes have taken place since the end of what was an underwhelming season as manager Nicky Featherstone left his role and 13 players departed the club when Pools announced their retained list.
A new management structure has been put in place with former Newcastle United midfielder Lee Clark now appointed as first-team manager and Pools stalwart Gary Liddle will be part of his backroom staff. Another former Poolie, Chris Beech, has returned to the club as head of recruitment and he will face a hectic summer as he looks to help Clark piece together a squad capable of competing on a number of fronts during the latter’s first season in as Pools boss.
Two players that will be sticking around for Clark’s first season in charge are Luke Charman and Jack Hunter after they both agreed new contracts over the last week - and Maxwell has insisted ‘strong foundations’ are being put in place as thoughts turn towards the new National League season.
He told the club website: “There’s been a huge amount of work taking place behind the scenes as we continue shaping the First Team squad ahead of the new season. A major focus has been ensuring every decision we make, whether that’s new signings, contract renewals or additions to the coaching staff, aligns with the style of play, character and identity we want this team to reflect moving forward.
“There’s still a lot of work ahead, but we’re beginning to build real momentum and putting strong foundations in place to help the club compete strongly next season. Players like Jack (Hunter) are important because they understand the expectations that come with representing Pools and help drive the professionalism and mentality required across the group every day.”
