Hartlepool United striker Rakish Bingham will regain goal touch says Ronnie Moore

That was the call from Ronnie Moore after seeing his Hartlepool United side “stop the rot” but fail to find the opposition net.

Four of the most promising openings in the 0-0 draw against Cambridge United fell to Bingham, who could not convert any, before making way for Scott Fenwick midway through the second half.

Bingham has not scored since the opening Saturday of the season when netting the match-clinching second goal in the 2-0 victory over Morecambe.

His general play has remained good but has not been able to take several good chances since, notably the penalty he fluffed at Exeter the previous Saturday.

The 21-year-old was denied by a great Chris Dunn save in the first half, while in the second period he miss-controlled following a good ball in by Rhys Oates.

He connected sweetly with a Jake Carroll cross from the left only to have his shot blocked, while he then tried to swap the ball onto his other foot which allowed Cambridge to clear.

“Bings is just going through one of those periods strikers go through,” said Moore.

“We’ve all had it, we’ve all been there.

“The sooner he just relaxes, the better.

“On a good day it would have been one touch and bang – back of the net.

“It will come for him, he’s just got to keep working and believing.”

Moore, a former striker himself, sympathises with Bingham’s run though he says he will be telling him to pull the trigger quicker.

But the Pools boss is convinced the summer signing from Mansfield will come good for Pools.

“It’s confidence really,” said Moore.

“But Bings is taking too long on the ball rather than just getting a shot in.

“We’ll work with him on the training pitch.

“His pace at this level means he should get 20 goals a season.

“I am sure he will.

“I’ve been a striker, we’ve all been through phases like this, it happens, but it’ll come.”
