Hartlepool’s injured Dolan heads back to Bradford City

HARTLEPOOL United have been dealt a major blow with Matty Dolan returning to parent club Bradford City after pulling his hamstring.

The Hartlepool-born midfielder signed for the club on loan deadline day and takes all of the set pieces for Ronnie Moore’s side.

But he pulled up in the warm-up at Victoria Park ahead of the Oxford United match.

The 21-year-old was helped from the pitch by physio Ian Gallagher and was immediately replaced in the starting line-up by Nicky Featherstone.

Moore confirmed afterwards that he would be out for six weeks and as a result has now returned to League One side Bradford.

His loan was due to finish at the end of December.

Moore said: “Matty has done his hamstring, so that will be six weeks.

“He has had to go back to Bradford City.

“I thought ‘what a good start that is!’

“The team was well organised and ready and Matty was on all of the set plays, I just thought to myself somebody up there doesn’t like us.

“It’s a real shame, especially when you don’t have a left-footer that can deliver that quality.

“He’s done well since I’ve been here and it is a real shame for him too.”

The midfielder had played just two matches, at home to Wycombe Wanderers and away to Burton Albion since signing on loan.

It was Dolan’s second spell after spending the first half of last season here under then boss Colin Cooper, scoring two goals in 25 appearances.

Brad Walker missed the match with a slight knee injury and Moore confirmed afterwards the Billingham-born teenager hadn’t trained since he arrived.

He added: “Brad is injured. He hasn’t trained since I have been here.

“I just see him on that bed, I don’t like injured players so I don’t talk to them very often because they aren’t any good to me sat in there!” joked Moore.

It is hoped the 18-year-old will be back in training early this week.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United striker Adam Campbell’s loan spell at Pools has ended and he has returned to his parent club.

The 19 year-old made just two appearances during his month-long loan spell at the club and wasn’t in the squad on Saturday.

Moore added: “Adam has gone back now.

“There is nothing happening with that, it is done.”
