Model pro Scott Fenwick can’t wait for Hartlepool United friendlies to start

But now the forward can’t wait to do the principal role at Hartlepool United and start scoring goals.

After nine days of putting in the hard yards in his first taste of pre-season training, Fenwick was yesterday asked to strike a pose – and model the new Pools home kit.

‘Working’ alongside new signing, Jake Carroll, it was a relaxed end to the second week of punishing graft.

And while Fenwick says he and the rest of the squad are happy with the work so far, the excitement is mounting with the start of the friendly programme on Monday, at Billingham Town.

“It’s always nice when the games come around,” he told SportMail. “We’ve done two weeks of pure hard graft.

“Even though we have had the ball out a bit, it’s not been too much.

“We had a little 11 v 11 down at the Army camp but, obviously, it’s not the intensity of the friendlies.

“They kick off on Monday, at Billingham Town and it will be nice to get back to playing football again.

“There are nine new signings and obviously having so many friendlies, it gives the gaffer and Sam [Collins] plenty of games to try the different systems, combinations

“For the players it’s the chance to learn each other’s games and improve on what we did last year.”

Fenwick, plucked from Northern League outfit Dunston last season by then-boss Paul Murray, admitted the start of the first professional pre-season of his football life has been tough.

But he says he and his team-mates have “enjoyed” it.

“It’s been hard, challenging,” said the Geordie.

“Speaking to the new signings, they say it’s the hardest pre-season they’ve ever had.

“It’s the first for me in the pro game and it has been difficult, but I have enjoyed it.

“With the whole Army camp experience it has brought us all together.

“After two weeks you’d think the new signings had been here forever!

“We all seem the best of mates and are having a good laugh, but when we are working, we’re working hard.”

He stopped short of describing his modelling as work but said he liked the kit.

“The design is top notch,” said Fenwick, who finished last season as the club’s top league scorer.

“It’s completely different in the respect that there are no stripes. It’s a big change for Hartlepool but I like it.

“I think it’s a modern look strip, pleasing on the eye and nice on the eye.”
