New boss Moore warns Hartlepool United players

The new Pools manager was paraded to the media at Victoria Park before getting straight down to work on the training pitch at Maiden Castle, in Durham.

Moore is assessing his squad – currently six points adrift at the bottom of the Football League – in detail over the coming days before the crunch match with Oxford United at home on Saturday.

He has called on them to start performing or be prepared to leave the club when the January transfer window opens on the 1st.

“The players know what I want from them and if they don’t deliver then when the window opens we will try and shift one or two,” Moore told SportMail.

“I have scope to bring players in, in January.

“I haven’t asked the question over money yet but anybody that comes in to a football club at this level are not going to throw £500,000 at it and say go out and sign three players and pay them this that and the other.

“That won’t happen.

“It is about refreshing it and the club has owners who want to push the club in the right direction.

“If we get it right on the pitch then you get more supporters in through the turnstiles.”

Moore is also expecting to use the loan system to add to the squad, with Matty Dolan, Joe Ironside, Matteo Lanzoni and Adam Campbell currently on loan from their parent clubs.

The 61-year-old added: “I will definitely be able to use the loan system and I have done that wherever I have been.

“If I have to move one or two to bring others in then I will.

“I know how to use the loan system and I have a lot of contacts in the game.”

The former Tranmere and Rotherham boss hasn’t wasted any time stamping his authority on the current crop of players either.

Once all of the media requirements were done and dusted Moore, and his

new assistant Sam Collins, headed to Durham to meet the rest of the players for the first time.

Wednesday is usually a day off but not anymore – especially after the way the side collapsed 4-0 away at Burton Albion on Saturday.

Moore told SportMail: “You shouldn’t be getting Wednesdays off when you are bottom of the league, should you?

“It’s a day to work, work on the defence because when the team concedes, it looks like it could be three or four.

“We’ve got to get that right.

“We will be working morning and afternoon to get that right and then the rest will come together.”

Moore, armed with a book full of notes, watched the Burton match from the stands.

He was encouraged by 44 of the first 45 minutes but left horrified by the entire second half when Pools conceded three times.

“You have got to be men and not friends,” he explained.

“They are frightened of falling out, that’s what I think at this moment in time.

“They need someone to go in and have a right pop at them – which I did yesterday.

“Now we’ll get on with doing the right things.

“I can’t do nothing about what has gone on but I’m certainly going to be trying my hardest.

“What’s gone is gone but the lads can go and put it right on the park,” added Moore who was putting the squad through practice matches yesterday and again today before working on set pieces tomorrow.
