Paul Murray hopes Hartlepool United have enough ‘firepower’ to take down Blyth Spartans.

Pools host Tom Wade’s side at Victoria Park in the second round of the FA Cup but injuries and ineligible loan players are causing Murray a headache.

The Cumbrian is adamant though that he has a big enough squad to cope.

Tommy Miller (calf) is still out alongside Sam Collins (knee), Michael Duckworth (groin), Jack Compton (knee) and Stuart Parnaby while loan signing Matty Dolan is cup tied and Joe Ironside is not allowed to play.

Scott Fenwick (above), meanwhile, is also cup tied having played for former club Dunston UTS in previous rounds before signing for Pools.

On-loan Cambridge United defender Matteo Lanzoni can play though and is set to partner Matthew Bates, the pair having started last week’s 3-1 defeat to Wycombe Wanderers.

Murray is hopeful of having on-loan pint-sized Newcastle United striker Adam Campbell available but talks are ongoing with his parent club.

Newcastle said he was able to play when his signing was first announced so Murray will be hoping to call on him.

“We have a few cup tied but Matteo Lanzoni can be involved,” said Murray.

“We are missing Joe Ironside and Matty Dolan while we are still waiting confirmation from Newcastle about Adam Campbell.

“I will have to make a few changes but we should have enough firepower for sure.

“I thought the two centre halves did quite well against Wycombe - Matteo and Batesy.

“It is always difficult with a new partnership and Matteo has been doing some extra work after training this week to get his fitness levels up.

“I thought he did okay but there is more to come from him, for sure.

“Tommy [Miller] remains out with his calf and he will be another couple of weeks.”

Miller, who is one match short of his 600th career appearance, has been out since the end of October, while Collins and Duckworth will be assessed by the club next week.

The veteran defender missed the Wycombe match while right-back Duckworth limped out of the 3-1 home defeat to York City.

Murray said: “Ducky will be out a little bit longer with his groin strain and Friday night is too soon for him.

“We will assess him next week and Sam is the same.”
