Scott Fenwick eager to impress Hartlepool United boss Ronnie Moore up front

But Scott Fenwick is ready to get back to what he does best, under the expert guidance of manager Ronnie Moore.

The 25-year-old striker is competing with Rakish Bingham, Rhys Oates and ex-Carlisle man Paynter for a starting slot after a busy summer of recruitment.

Moore has a tough choice to make over who will be his number one partnership but Fenwick is relishing working under him.

And he admits he cannot wait for the 2015-16 curtain raiser on August 8, when Morecambe come to town.

“The gaffer is the type of manager that I need and I am used to and like,” Fenwick told SportMail.

“Not everyone will like a new manager when they come in but he gets the best out of everybody.

“We work with him everyday and he gives us rollockings when you need one but will also put his arm around you when you need that too.

“I have enjoyed working with him and cannot wait for the new campaign to start.”

Fenwick came to Pools’ attention last November after another impressive scoring run with Ebac Northern League side Dunston UTS, notching 15 goals.

He went on to play a pivotal role in the League Two side’s survival, something he hopes they can build on this campaign.

“We need to use the momentum gained,” added Fenwick, who has been watching the summer re-building project with interest.

“The gaffer knew what players we needed and he proved that with the loan lads he brought in, it was like a different team in the final five months of the season.

“With the spine of the team and the experience that some of the younger lads now have, we can push on.

“Southend and Burton both came here and won 1-0 last season and I don’t think there is much between the sides in this division, yet, they were pushing to get into League One.”

Last season’s leading scorer in the league had been linked with a move to League Two rivals Portsmouth on social media.

But Pools chairman Gary Coxall, of owners JPNG, took to Twitter to deny Fenwick was heading south to Pompey.

Coxall, a prolific tweeter, wrote: “Rumours, definite future Pools legend. Fantastic season ahead for Scott and us.”

Fenwick missed 11 games with an ankle injury last campaign and picked up another knock in the season finale at Carlisle United, spraining his medial ligament.

It meant he had to wear a knee brace over the summer months, but it didn’t prevent him keeping himself fit ahead of a gruelling 46-game season.

Yesterday, he joined the rest of his teammates at Maiden Castle, in Durham, for the first day of a packed pre-season schedule, which includes nine friendlies.
