Wrexham’s owner to be Reynolds is well known for his starring role in the hit Marvel film Deadpool while McElhenney is the creator and star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the longest-running live-action comedy series in American television history.

A statement issued on Wrexham’s club website read: “The Wrexham Supporters Trust Board would like to thank Mr Rob McElhenney and Mr Ryan Reynolds, and their advisors Inner Circle Sports and Walker Morris, for their professional and considered approach and for the time they have already put into the process.

“As Wrexham supporters, we would like to wish them the very best of luck in charge of our Football Club and look forward to what the future brings.”

The Mail understands that representatives of Reynolds and McElhenney had been in talks with Hartlepool United over the summer but chairman Raj Singh ultimately rejected their takeover proposal.

And with Wrexham set to face Pools at Victoria Park on Tuesday evening, Monday’s takeover news undoubtedly adds a little spice to the build-up of the National League encounter.
