'Imagine the crowds at The Vic!' – Hartlepool United fans react to going second in the National League with 1-0 win over Sutton United

Rhys Oates’ second half header separated the sides in the top of the table clash at The Vic to give Pools their first ever National League win over Sutton at the seventh attempt.

It was also a fifth straight home win for Hartlepool for the first time since their 2006-07 promotion winning campaign in League Two.

Unfortunately, fans are still not allowed to attend matches in person but they still made their voices heard on social media following the hard-fought win.

Here’s what they had to say…

Paul Dickson: “To all the wonderful people at HUFC: Alex on the commentary, Dave the groundsman, Emily and all at HUFC for the wonderful way they supported us with dads passing [pictured] - he will have been chuffed to bits with the 3 points today - HUFC - at the heart of the community thank you.”

Dan Nicholson: “This is the difference from previous seasons. Probably over the last 10 years we'd have lost that game. I feel like we've really turned a corner under DC.”

Bri Stokle: “We have no luck do we? Imagine the crowds in the Vic at the moment! 5k+.”

Jack Ashman: “First time we’ve taken 3pts of Sutton. The Dave Challinor effect.”

@durhamchris1983: “Good win. Will it mean anything? Who knows? Ultimately all we can do is continue as normal until told otherwise. Well done to Dave and the whole team today.”

Jordan Richardson: “Wasn’t pretty but what a gritty performance! That was as good as six points for us. Get in!”

Kate Simons: “I don’t think I’ve gotten any fingernails left, what a nervy last 5/10 minutes. BUT what a win! Pools, you’re going to send me mad but I do love you!”

@Poolieboy1Les1: “Well done lads brilliant 3 points, let's do the same next Saturday away at Dover. P.S before anyone says we play Tuesday night at Halifax, I've just had a word with the groundsman and they are calling the game off because a couple of blades of grass are too long in the box!"
