Here we look back at significant milestones in the club’s 115-year history.
5. Four-midable
The club's next promotion from Division Four - after surviving several re-election battles at the Football League's dreaded annual general meeting - was not until 1991 under caretaker boss Alan Murray, centre, and controversial owner Garry Gibson, far right. Photo: TC
6. Flying the flag
With the 1968 promotion achieved on a Monday night in Wales, the 1991 success was the first time many fans had seen Pools go up in person. Nearly 7,000 spectators packed the Vic for the 3-1 final-day triumph over Northampton Town. While Murray deserved praise, the team was built by Cyril Knowles, who would sadly die just months later. 7. Handy Andy
The club's arguably most famous day came less than two years later when striker Andy Saville's late penalty defeated Premier League Crystal Palace 1-0 at an icy Victoria Ground in the third round of the FA Cup in 1993. Photo: JPIMedia
8. At last
Relegated to the renamed Division Three in 1994, Pools escaped the non-league trapdoor in 1997 and 1999 before reaching the play-offs three times under Turner from 2000-02. Promotion was finally achieved in 2003 under Mike Newell. Photo: TC
