Business as usual for Hartlepool United ahead of Solihull Moors trip despite Storm Dennis weather threat

Hartlepool United will have to battle the elements as well as a notoriously difficult opponent in Solihull Moors at Damson Park on Saturday (3pm kick-off) – providing the match goes ahead.

Pools made the journey down to the West Midlands on Friday ahead of the National League match against their play-off chasing rivals.

But with Storm Dennis expected to batter the country this weekend, some doubt has been cast as to whether the match will go ahead as planned. Two days of yellow weather warnings have been issued in Birmingham by The Met Office with high-winds and rainfall expected on Saturday.

But it’s got to be business as usual for Dave Challinor Challinor and his Hartlepool side.

“Regardless of conditions, I always look forward to games,” he said.

“You look forward to seeing how the stuff you've worked on through the week transpires onto the pitch.

“You hope the work you've done through the week is carried out by the players but you're constantly challenged in terms of how things can go and where you potentially can make an impact from the touchline.

“It's a tough game, Solihull are very effective in what they do and got themselves into the play-offs last year. My side beat them to get into the final at Wembley.

“We know what we're going to come up against. First and foremost you have to deal with that and accept that that is going to happen and we have got to impose what we are going to do on the game.

“We're going to be expansive, we're going to be open, we’re going to be positive and get bodies forward and I'm pretty hopeful that we're going to cause them problems as well.”

Solihull have recently appointed Jimmy Shan as their new manager but Challinor isn’t expecting too many changes to their approach.

“You don't change things the minute you come in, you try and embed principles,” he added.

“Further down the line, Jimmy may want to play a little bit more but ultimately the players they have are set up to play a certain way.”
