Former Sunderland winger Luke Molyneux hoping to keep place in Hartlepool United side following goalscoring return

Luke Molyneux couldn’t have dreamed of a better return to the Hartlepool United starting line-up as he grabbed a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Aldershot Town on Saturday.

The 21-year-old missed the entire first half of the season due to a troublesome foot injury, but now he’s back and determined to kick-on for the final 12 matches of the campaign.

“It’s a nice feeling to get your name to your name called out to start,” Molyneux said.

“But I knew that my name being on the teamsheet doesn’t mean anything, I need to work as hard as I can to stay in the team.

“A goal and an assist is obviously nice, but just starting matches again is my main target. Hopefully I’ve shown that I can start next week as well.”

Pools travel to Solihull Moors in the National League this Saturday.
