Jeff Stelling makes a stark prediction over when football could return at Hartlepool United and other clubs
In an interview with the Mirror, the Hartlepool United president revealed how the lack of football – which usually shapes his working week – has taken its toll.
And that’s not just on the Sky Sports presenter, but on the country in general.

“Saturday afternoons and Tuesday nights are the focus of the whole community in the way it brings everyone together, and it’s the only time people get in that situation.
“There’s a focus, a reason for being. The number of people who have come up to me – before self isolation, I must say – asking, ‘What will we do on Saturday now? No football, no Soccer Saturday’.
“Sometimes it’s hard to keep track of the days. I look forward to Saturday because of football. Sunday has games as well, and now there’s nothing to set them apart. There’s no focus anymore.

“Football gives you something to look forward to no matter how rotten your side may be.
“It gives you something to look forward to no matter how miserable you may be feeling.”
Stelling’s Saturday’s are usually occupied with Soccer Saturday – and he’s ensuring he keeps in touch with his colleagues during this difficult period.

“I message the boys a lot, Tiss and everybody. And especially Thommo, because he’s that much older than the rest of us! He’s a year older than me. But I make sure everyone is OK and that’s all you can do.
“Football is a beacon of hope, but we have to be realistic. I think it’s going to be a long time before we can return to normal and get football back before big crowds again.”
