While many positions may seem obvious, there’s still some debate in some areas. Our Boro writer Joe Nicholson has picked what he thinks is the Teessiders’ strongest side. Scroll down and flick through our picture gallery to see if you agree.
5. LB: George Friend
The Boro skipper now has competition at left-back following the emergence of Hayden Coulson and arrival of Marc Bola. Friend's experience and leadership qualities can't be understated though. Photo: Tony Marshall
6. CDM: Adam Clayton
It's been a mixed start to the season for the 30-year-old. At times Clayton has brought balance to Boro's midfield while there have also been times when the engine room has been overrun. Even so, Clayton still looks like Boro's best option for the holding role. Photo: Frank Reid
7. CM: Lewis Wing
After impressing at Luton, Wing's performances have dropped a little in recent weeks. Even so, the 24-year-old poses a significant attacking threat with his ability to shoot from distance and offensive mindset. Photo: Getty Images
8. CM: Paddy McNair
Since moving back into midfield, McNair has been one of Boro's best performers so far this season. The Northern Ireland international likes to break forward from midfield and was rewarded after netting his first Boro goal against Millwall on Saturday. Photo: Getty Images
