Stevenage were initially set to be the only side to be relegated from the EFL into the National League after they ended the season in 24th position.

But a further points deduction for Macclesfield means they have dropped below Stevenage in the final standings and will now take their place in the fifth tier.

The Silkmen were handed a two-point penalty back in June in relation to the payment of player wages for March 2020.

The EFL later appealed the decision which ultimately led to a further four-point deduction and relegating Macclesfield after two seasons back in League Two.

An EFL statement read: “Today’s outcome leaves Macclesfield Town in 24th position in the table on 19 points with a points per game (PPG) total of 23.62, resulting in the Club’s relegation into the National League.”
