Manager previously a target for Hartlepool United sacked by fellow National League side
Graham Coughlan, who was heavily linked with a move to Hartlepool United over the summer, has been sacked by Boston United.
The Irishman was dismissed in the wake of a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Braintree at the weekend, their fifth game without a win, leaving the Pilgrims languishing in 17th in the National League table and just three points above the relegation zone.
Following such a strong end to last season, Coughlan's relationship with the Boston board appeared to sour over the summer and into the new campaign, with the 51-year-old even suggesting the Pilgrims were "happy to go down" in a remarkable post on his LinkedIn.
Coughlan was appointed Boston manager in November 2024 with the Lincolnshire side nine points from safety in the National League having won promotion via the play-offs in the 2023/24 campaign.
Following an up-and-down start to life at the Jakemans Community Stadium, Boston found themselves 12 points adrift in March but a remarkable run saw them climb out of the bottom four by the end of the month, accumulating 20 points from nine matches.
Having secured their National League status in the penultimate game of last season, Boston were touted as potential outsiders for a place in the play-offs this term but the Pilgrims have found things tough going, with Coughlan often vocally critical of his players in the media.
According to BBC Sport, Pools had an approach for Coughlan rejected by Boston in June in the wake of controversial former owner Raj Singh's remarkable return to his previous position as chairman.
