The Teessiders produced a fine team performance at The Den after manager Neil Warnock altered his formation to play with a back three and wing-backs.

Defender Ryan Shotton particularly impressed after being recalled to the starting XI, with many fans singling out the centre-back as man of the match.

Second-half goals from Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher secured the points in South East London.

@YusufBoroFan: Like I said the other day, it's the hope that kills you. Massive three points and well deserved. Despite some shocking decisions by the ref we battled and came home with a win. Just goes to show, like a lot of Boro fans have said this season, the wing backs system suits us best.
