The game was overshadowed by an injury to Dael Fry which left Boro boss Neil Warnock furious after the defender was left with a cut just below his eye.

Joe Rothwell then scored the only goal of the game for the visitors in the second half, leaving Boro three points off the play-off places ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Rotherham.

@JoeScottGraps: Still no win for us at home this year but hopefully we’ll bounce back against Rotherham on Wednesday

@Tomjuniorkm3: Shocking decision from the Ref. Proper baffling

@ChristianDarby9: No excusing our poor defending for their goal but that first half decision totally changed the game. The standard of refereeing is shambolic! Really hope Dael Fry is okay.

@dominiccampbell: We specialise in giving underperforming teams points. Robbed by ref but we need a creative midfielder and decent striker fast

@MABrecksy: Joke, fair enough we didn’t play well at all, we didn’t make enough opportunities but that tackle on Fry is the major incident. It’s a stone wall foul, definitely a penalty but again the ref was awful, totally changed the game. After that, our heads dropped.

@WhyAlwaysTav: Embarrassing. Didn’t make them pay when we were on top and play like we are winning at 0-1

@Richie_K143: Slack goal given away, and a terrible decision at the start cost us a needed 3 points. Need to start switching on if we’re to chase for promotion.

@jeff_boro: Don’t know what’s more worrying. The standard of refereeing, the defence for the goal or the complete lack of signings

@JHL13575637: Can’t go on about pen and red card all day, we simply weren’t good enough. Players watching the ball, players not good enough but still on. Wood found out today.

@nahitslying: We should have had a pen but let's be honest most of the game was left and we created what? One good chance. That's not good enough. We never looked like scoring

@Smithy_MFC84: How frustrating was that?! Arguably should’ve been playing against ten men, but we can’t let that be an excuse for what in the end is an extremely disappointing result.
