The 26-year-old forward has made a big impact since joining Boro on a short-term deal in November, scoring five goals in six starts for the Teessiders.

And despite interest from other clubs in England, the forward decided to stay at Boro where he has rediscovered his form under manager Neil Warnock.

Supporters were understandably upbeat after the deal was confirmed – while some asked about Ashley Fletcher’s situation, with the striker’s contract set to expire this summer.

Here are some of the responses:

@LukeNic_: Good bit of business, certainly proved me wrong with his performances

@Jo_steel1: Excellent news. Fletcher next please…

@Boro_Breakdown: Thoroughly deserved! Best signing we could make this January

@tom_mcgarry17: Excellent news & thoroughly deserved

@Smithy_MFC84: Fantastic news! A two and half year deal is longer than I expected, but at the same time it's a well deserved one given what he's added to the team in his short spell so far. Next deal, Fletcher please.
