Two goals from Josh Murphy and a Sean Morrison opener gave the Bluebirds all three points at the Riverside before Britt Assombalonga grabbed one back for the hosts.

Despite the result, Boro can’t be relegated from the Championship if Wigan are deducted 12 points for going into administration – yet the Latics have appealed the decision.

After the game, many fans highlighted Boro’s defensive errors, an area which will need to be addressed next season.

@MarkGOswald1: Disastrous defending, slow out of the blocks, yet again and a fragmented display. Dijksteel had another good game, along with Tav, Britt's goal was a cracker but apart from that, not many bright spots. The defence needs to be rebuilt centrally, just not good enough.
