Championship predicted table: Middlesbrough, Ipswich Town and Millwall's likely final positions
Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough and Millwall remain in contention for a Championship automatic promotion place.
Middlesbrough’s hopes of securing automatic promotion into the Premier League were hampered by an underwhelming Bank Holiday weekend.
A crucial Good Friday home clash with promotion rivals Millwall went the way of the visitors as former Boro striker Josh Coburn scored twice to give his side all three points after Dael Fry had put Kim Hellberg’s men in front midway through the first-half. That was followed up by a Monday’s 2-2 draw at Swansea City as goals from Boro duo Alex Bangura and Tommy Conway sandwiched two penalties from Championship top goalscorer Zan Vipotnik.
Results elsewhere went against Boro as Ipswich Town battled their way to a 2-1 home win against Birmingham City that lifted them above Hellberg’s side and into the runners-up spot in the Championship table. The Tractor Boys will feel they can all but secure second place between now and the end of the season as they hold two games in hand on Middlesbrough and Millwall.
But how could the Championship table look when the curtain comes down on the regular season in May and will Boro secure one of the two automatic promotion places or will they have to settle for a play-off spot? We take a look at the latest predicted final table with the help of the stats experts at Opta.
