The EFL allowed 1,000 fans to attend the match as part of a pilot plan which took place at nine games across the country.

After falling behind to Dominic Solanke’s first-half opener, Boro claimed a deserved equaliser when Marcus Browne came off the bench and scored his first goal for the club.

Here’s what some supporters thought about the performance and the safety measures put in place:

@YusufBoroFan: Credit to the club for being so organised in a very last minute decision to let in fans. Nothing seemed to different as it’s basically following the same guidelines across the country RE social distancing, face masks etc

@We_are_Boro: Decent result today. We were the better team and have players to come in yet. Pleased for @MarcusBrowne14 to get the goal.

@charlesl86: Thought we were brilliant at times today unlucky not to win get a creative midfielder be sorted

@AppleAndy82: Gotta say, regardless of result.... @Boro had it all spot on today. Easy to park..... easy to enter..... easy to sit.... loads of signs..... sanitiser stations..... fans were superb

@BonkersforBoro: Paddy McNair was outstanding today. Despite being stifled in defence he was the most creative player on the pitch. Middlesbrough desperately need a new defender as playing him in central defence is such a waste of his vision and passing ability.

@JohnA2710: Very good experience. Stewards need praising, friendly informative and very good at communicating

@robertsnicola1: Really enjoyed it today! Although it was a totally different match day experience to what we are used to, I thought the measures put in place were fantastic and I felt safe, and comfortable at all times!

@Smithy_MFC84: Deserved more, but heads didn’t drop after going behind as we continued to be the better of the two sides.

@SuperSquand: We were much the better team. Perhaps another option or two from the bench needed.

@Lucdoggy: Mad how good Dijksteel has been playing CB, looks made for it

@HarryPattison3: Progress but we are crying out for a creative midfielder and someone blessed with pace
