Middlesbrough are preparing for this weekend’s Championship meeting with Brentford – but what else has been happening in and around the Riverside?

We round up some of the latest Boro-related news stories ahead of the trip to West London

Bolasie discusses failed transfer

Boro were close to signing Everton winger Yannick Bolasie on transfer deadline day, yet a loan deal wasn’t completed in time.

Speaking after the move collapsed, Boro boss Neil Warnock said there were errors from both sides, including from Bolasie and his agent who hadn’t disclosed some key information which would have sped up the transfer.

Warnock didn’t go into detail about what happened but Bolasie has admitted that all parties made mistakes.

Speaking to the Athletic, Bolasie said: “I know the manager and called him myself because I didn’t want to be here picking my nose.

“It would have been a good fit because I knew the manager and some of the players. I know what Neil has done in the past with the likes of myself and Adel Taarabt.

“I don’t know [why it fell through], it was just an error on all sides.

“What I can say is that I did everything in my corner to make sure I played games at Middlesbrough.”

Duo named in Northern Ireland squad

After Boro’s trip to Brentford there will be another international break.

Unsurprisingly, first-tem duo Paddy McNair and George Saville have been called up for Northern Ireland for the upcoming games, including next week's huge Euro 2020 Play-Off clash.

Ian Baraclough’s side will face Slovakia in Belfast next Thursday in a winner-takes-all fixture to see who qualifies for next summer’s tournament.

Northern Ireland then have two Nations League matches, in Austria on Sunday, November 15 and at home to Romania on Wednesday, November 18, before Boro’s next game against Norwich at the Riverside.

Grosicki speculation continues

Reports over the weekend claimed that Boro are interested in a January move for West Brom winger Kamil Grosicki.

The Polish international is surplus to requirements at the Hawthorns and saw a deadline day loan move to Nottingham Forest collapse.

According to the Northern Echo, Warnock is assessing possible deals for Grosicki and former target Bolasie when the window reopens.
