The 28-year-old has been without a club since his contract was terminated by Cardiff in September and is looking forward to linking up with former Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock.

Warnock was keen to bolster Boro’s attacking options in January and Mendez-Laing believes he can contribute in the goalscoring department.

"I've been keeping fit, I'm sure I'll be working with the fitness coach very closely,” Mendez-Laing told the club’s website.

"Whenever the gaffer needs me, I'll be ready."

Asked what fans can expect from him, the winger replied: "I'm very attack minded. I like to get on the ball, get at defenders and hopefully chip in with a few goals and assists. I'm very direct and attacking.

"I'll do the other side as well. I'll give 100 per cent every week, and we'll see where that gets us."

When discussing the prospect of working with Warnock at Boro, Mendez-Laing added: "I'm happy to get the deal done and to work for the gaffer as well. It's a great club, a massive club. We're in a good position in the league and hopefully we can go on and do some big things.

"The gaffer brought the best out of me at Cardiff. We had a good few seasons, hopefully we can replicate that here.

"I think personally I have experience at this level now, as the gaffer has as much as anybody.

"He knows what it takes to get out of this league, hopefully that's what we can do."
