The 34-year-old centre-back, who made 21 appearances for Boro during two separate loan spells, signed for Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno earlier this year after spells in Argentina and Spain.

Amorebieta was dismissed in the 82nd minute of a derby match against rivals Olympia de Asuncion when the defender bit opposing player Nestor Camacho in the head.

Camacho was also sent off after replays appeared to show him throwing an elbow at Amorebieta.

Before joining Boro, the Venezuelan defender made 48 appearances for Fulham and played in the Premier League.

Punishments for biting opponents are often lengthy ones. Amorebieta was on the receiving end of a similar incident when he was at Boro which saw then-Leeds striker Souleymane Doukara receive an eight-match ban.
