According to Football Insider Shotton has agreed to join Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory and will join former Boro team-mate Rudy Gestede who has also agreed terms.

In an interview earlier this week, Shotton said he is hopeful he can find a new club before Christmas.

"I’m hoping to be sorted in the next three to four weeks,” the defender told Stoke-on-Trent Live. “The January window will get things moving before Christmas and, as fixtures come so quickly, clubs are going to need an injection of players.”

Striker reacts to transfer speculation

Boro were one of several clubs to be linked with Boreham Wood striker Sorba Thomas during the last transfer window.

Peterborough, Sunderland, Charlton and Portsmouth were also credited with interest in the 21-year-old who has scored two goals in seven appearances for the non-league club this season.

When asked about recent speculation, Thomas told South London Press: “I have a relationship with the gaffer, with the chairman and they did let me know.

“We had a little conversation but like I said, I’m a Boreham Wood player until I’m told that I’m not.

"I’ll put 100 per cent into the games for the team and get the boys to where they should be – in the football league. That’s our aspirations for this year. We’re still on course. Let’s see what happens.”

Finally, Boro’s Paddy McNair played his third match for Northern Ireland in the space of seven days.

Ian Baraclough’s side were held to a 1-1 draw with Romania in Belfast on Wednesday, as Liam Boyce’s opener was cancelled out by Eric Bicfalvi’s equaliser for the visitors.

McNair played the full 90 minutes and will now return to Boro ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Norwich.
