The Egyptian midfielder was dismissed for handling the ball and denying a goalscoring opportunity against the Hatters, yet replays showed the ball hit his shoulder.

Boro boss Neil Warnock immediately said Boro would appeal the decision which would have resulted in a one-game suspension.

The statement read: "Sam Morsy will be available for Middlesbrough FC’s next game after a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

“The midfielder was sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity during an EFL Championship game against Luton Town FC on Wednesday.”

Warnock said on Friday he had two teams in mind ahead of the Birmingham match, one which included Morsy and one which didn’t.
