Boro are now waiting for the player’s parent club to sign off the deal, with the top-flight manager assessing his squad before making a final decision.

We take a look at five wide players who could benefit from a loan move to the Championship.

Kamil Grosicki (West Brom)

A player who has been linked with Boro before and almost joined Nottingham Forest during the last transfer window – yet a deal wasn’t completed in time.

The Polish international, 32, wasn’t even making it into West Brom’s matchday squad under Slaven Bilic at the start of the season and looked set for a January move.

Since then, Grosicki has come back into favour under new manager Sam Allardyce at the Hawthorns and has actually started the Baggies’ last two league games.

That is because the likes of Grady Diangana and Matt Phillips have been unavailable, while new West Brom signing Robert Snodgrass will provide more competition on the flanks.

Helder Costa (Leeds)

The 27-year-old is a Championship promotion winner with both Wolves and Leeds but hasn’t started a league game for Marcelo Bielsa’s side since the start of November.

Jack Harrison and Raphinha have been Leeds' regular wideman in recent weeks, while Costa has been used sparingly off the bench.

The Whites don’t have the biggest squad and Bielsa may be forced to rotate his side more during the second half of the campaign.

Even so, a player with Costa’s ability won’t be satisfied sitting on the bench.

Jacob Murphy (Newcastle)

After a promising loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday last season, when he scored nine goals in 37 Championship appearances, Murphy returned to Newcastle hoping to break into Steve Bruce’s first team.

The 25-year-old has received opportunities and started four consecutive games in November, in which he scored a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Wolves.

Still, Murphy has been left on the bench for the Magpies’ last three games, despite Newcastle’s poor run of form.

Aboubakar Kamara (Fulham)

A versatile forward who can play as a winger or up front.

The 25-year-old has been part of two Championship promotion campaigns with Fulham but has made just 11 Premier League appearances this season.

With Scott Parker’s side involved in a relegation battle, they may be reluctant to let an attacking player leave, yet The Cottagers’ switch to a back three and wing-backs hasn’t suited Kamara.

With the likes of Ivan Cavaleiro, Ademola Lookman and Aleksandar Mitrovic ahead of him in the pecking order up front, Kamara may be allowed to leave this month.

Anthony Gordon (Everton)

Possibly the ‘gamble’ Warnock was referring to earlier this week.

At 19-years-old, Gordon doesn't have much first-team experience but is clearly rated highly by Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian manager handed Gordon his senior debut last season, and the winger went on to make 11 Premier League appearances before the end of the campaign.

Gordon has made just three league appearances this term but has been included in the Toffees’ squad in recent weeks.
