Hartlepool-born former Middlesbrough ace Bryn Morris has been backed to fulfill his potential at Portsmouth – once the season restarts.

The midfielder has missed all of the 2019-20 campaign so far with an abdomen injury but is now back fit and working to get back in manager Kenny Jackett’s first team plans.

All football has been suspended due to the coronavirus crisis, with all players currently training at home.

No date has yet been set for when it will be safe to resume but the Premier League and EFL hope to conclude the current season behind-closed-doors when safe to do so.

And that has given Morris, 23, some extra time to boost his fitness and look to make an impression when training resumes.

The former Middlesbrough academy product and England youth international has been restricted to just one goal in eight appearances since arriving from Shrewsbury in January 2019.

Jackett believes the Fratton Park faithful will see the best of him if he can stay fit.

The Pompey boss told our sister title the Portsmouth News: “You have to persevere and if you’re good enough and determined enough then you will get there.

“For Bryn, there has always been a player there. It’s just about him keeping fit and staying fit.

“I’ve got confidence now he will stay fit and put the injuries behind him.

“He's got a pedigree playing for England youth teams and even before that.

“Since he came back training, he looked very fit physically. In the football work when he was around, he did well.

“There is no doubt that the potential is there if we can keep him fit and he can stay fit – which I have confidence is going to happen now.”

Jackett added: “He's a very fit lad anyway and any training he does anyway, he's normally right up there.

“It does wipe the slate because nobody would have played for a month or two months by the time we do play again.

“It does bring them onto an even keel and people won’t have match fitness over those who hadn't been playing.”
