All professional football in the UK has been postponed until April 3 at the earliest, with Rangers scheduled to visit the Riverside a day later.

The EFL are set to discuss how they can complete the season this week, with football’s governing bodies trying to find solutions to the coronavirus outbreak.

Like Boro, QPR have continued to train as they wait for updates on the unprecedented situation.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Debate, Warburton said: “Our approach has been to give the boys a week off. We’ll come in on Monday train for three days, have a day off, train for two days.

“We’ll then have a normal week in to what would be Middlesbrough away.

“Right now, personally, I think it will be pushed back a number of weeks and all we can then do is respond appropriately.

“Whether we start on May the first or December the first, we have to finish the rest of the programme, for the integrity of football we have to finish it.”

Like other managers in the Premier League and EFL, Warburton thinks the season should be completed when safe to do so.

He also believes football can play a big part in society when it eventually returns.

“We have to make sure we maintain integrity and finish the programme whenever it may be,” Warburton added.

“The other thing for me as well is when football comes back the role football will play in society is huge.

“When the game does come back, hopefully sooner rather than later, the attention will be on a promotion race, relegation fight, play-off places. The fans will be flocking back to see it.

“If you come to the start of a new season, there’s that slow burner, slow build, but this game is being missed by so many people around the world. When it does come back you want that powerful impact.”
