Boro have struggled in front of goal this season with just nine goals scored in their opening 11 Championship matches.

But Warnock insists it isn’t for the want of trying.

And when it was put to Warnock that Boro played boring football, the manager insists that is simply not the case.

Warnock said: “You say boring but I don't think we play negative football.

“We play attractive football that people can watch, you just think wow if they got a striker what could they be like?

“It's the best team I've probably had football wise.

“I don't think we're boring, I just think we're frustrated we don't have someone knocking 20 goals in. But it's not a lack of trying.

“The lads are working their socks off.”

Boro are certainly defensively solid, having only conceded five goals in their 11 matches so far this season. The goalless draw with Brentford at the weekend saw them extend their unbeaten run to 10 games.

Middlesbrough have a free weekend coming up with the Premier League and Championship taking a break for the international weekend.

Warnock, when asked what his plans for the break were, said: “I’m not in until Friday. They won’t be in until Thursday afternoon.

“I’m not a stats man, they keep bringing me these things which I don’t look at.

“I can see by looking at their faces.

“I’ll be on my bike getting some exercise this week and might lose a bit of weight.”
