Jelle Vossen: Boro must concentrate on positives

The Belgian forward scored nine goals for Aitor Karanka’s outfit since joining on loan from Genk but the season ended in dejection after the 2-0 Sky Bet Championship defeat to Norwich City.

On the whole, the 26-year-old says that the club can reflect with pride at the previous nine months.

“We can be proud of the things we achieved but everyone wanted to win to get promoted,” Vossen said.

“It’s been a year of ups and downs.

“In general it’s been an amazing season and better than most expected at the beginning and that’s a good thing.

“Nobody expected us to be where we are and we have to take the positives.”

A candid Vossen admits the promotion dreams were in tatters following goals from Cameron Jerome and Nathan Redmond.

“We lost the game in the first 20 minutes and that’s disappointing,” he rued.

“It was going to be very difficult, we did all we could in the second half when we played better.

“I wouldn’t say the first goal was crucial but it’s always better to get the first goal. If you have to two goals to get in the final 10 minutes then you know that that will be very difficult to come back.

“Everybody was looking forward to getting a victory, to getting promoted. We did everything we could but it wasn’t enough.

“Norwich deserved it more than us.”
