The 22-year-old centre-back joined Boro on loan from St Etienne last month and played his first game for the Teessiders in Saturday’s defeat at Brentford.

Many were impressed by Moukoudi’s performance at Griffin Park, and Woodgate thinks the defender can go right to the top.

“I thought he was very good, really good,” said Woodgate when asked about Moukoudi’s debut. “I think he’s a Premier League player in the making in my view and I’ve only seen him in a few training sessions.

“He’s got all the attributes to play in the Premier League in my opinion.”

Boro will need Moukoudi as they head into an important run of games, staring with Tuesday’s trip to relegation-threatened Wigan.

The Teessiders then face two more sides in the bottom three, Luton and Barnsley, yet Woodgate is taking it one game at a time.

“I’m only thinking about Wigan, that’s a really important game. We’ll be going to try and win the game but they’re a decent enough team and have had some good results.

“Against Preston they got beat but they are a decent team, he’s got them playing some good football especially with Kieffer Moore up front, he’s a difficult player to play against.

“We will need to be at it, it’s important that we don’t lose the game.

Jamal Lowe is another good player, them two can win games at the drop of a hat.”
