All three players missed Monday’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest – a result which kept Boro inside the Championship relegation zone following Lewis Grabban’s late equaliser.

Fletcher and Friend were both forced off with hamstring injuries during the Teessiders’ 1-0 defeat to Leeds last week, while Assombalonga has been struck down by illness.

“Britt’s ill. I can’t see him being in tomorrow,” said Woodgate following the draw with Forest at the Riverside.

“Ashley Fletcher has a hamstring injury and may be fit for the weekend. George Friend is out. Two or three weeks.”

Boro playmaker Patrick Roberts (hamstring) and defender Dael Fry (thigh) are making progress following their lengthy injury setbacks.

Anfernee Dijksteel has also stepped up his recovery from a knee issue after playing for the club’s under-23 side last week, yet the 23-year-old right-back won’t be ready to face Charlton.

Centre-back Daniel Ayala hasn’t featured since New Year’s Day after sustaining an ankle injury at Preston, yet the Spaniard’s return date remains unclear.

When asked about injuries ahead of the Charlton game, Woodgate added: “Anfernee Dijksteel won’t be fit. Ayala no. Patrick Roberts no. Dael Fry no.

“Dael Fry and Patrick Roberts are getting closer and are working really well.”

The Addicks are just a point ahead of Boro in the Championship table.
