Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Leeds United saw Boro slip to the cusp of the Championship relegation zone as pressure increased on Teesside.

Woodgate’s side have now gone nine league games without a win and could drop into the bottom three before Monday’s meeting with Nottingham Forest.

Boro’s dismal run of results has led to unrest among supporters, who are fearing the prospect of relegation to League One.

When asked if he would walk away if the time was right, Woodgate replied: “I keep on fighting and if I thought the time was right to walk away I’d walk away but the time isn’t right. Without a shadow of a doubt I’ll keep on fighting right until the end.

“There are 11 games to go and we need to get out of this situation, we’ve done it before when we were in the relegation zone and my players can do it again.”

Woodgate also insisted that he and chairman Steve Gibson are remaining positive despite the poor run of form.

“We always speak and the biggest thing to be is be positive and grind out results, get results and that’s the biggest thing at the minute,” replied Woodgate when asked about his conversations with Gibson.

“Everything is possible, we have 11 big games and I see us not going down. I see us climbing the table with victories.”
