The 23-year-old, who joined Boro from Charlton in the summer, has made 13 Championship appearances this season but was forced off during the recent win over Barnsley.

“He’s done his knee. It’s a repair on the meniscus so it’s a three-month job,” said Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate when asked about the defender.

The Teessiders are once again set to be without several first-team players ahead of this weekend’s game against Charlton, with Ryan Shotton (knee), Darren Randolph (thigh), George Friend (thigh) and Dijksteel all sidelined.

Marvin Johnson and Paddy McNair are also suspended but Britt Assombalonga should be fit to face the Addicks.

After revealing last week that club captain Friend will be out until February, Woodgate has now confirmed that Shotton and Randolph will both be unavailable for around four weeks.

Rudy Gestede and Marcus Browne have both returned to training.
