The EFL chair faced a parliamentary committee on Tuesday, May 5 to provide evidence on how the outbreak of COVID-19 has affected the three leagues he governs.

And when quizzed on what would happen with promotion from and relegation into the Championship, Parry provided a definitive answer.

“We expect three Championship clubs to be promoted - the Premier League are aware of our position on that,” he said.

“The Premier League expects three clubs to be relegated.

Asked what would happen if the Premier League's position changed, Parry said: "The lawyers are going to get wealthy if that happens. There would be a degree of outrage from a number of clubs in our Championship, and it would be a breach of the tripartite agreement.

"The safe answer is that it would get very messy. Our expectation is there would be three clubs promoted from the Championship."

Parry also confirmed that the EFL needs to finish by July 31, and that they would require help to make a decision ‘within days’ as to whether the current campaign can continue.

He also provided details of the staggering financial loss facing clubs as a result of the suspension of fixtures.

“We are heading for a financial hole of £200m by the end of September,” said Parry.

"Clubs are stacking up creditors and there are a great deal of uncertainties."
