The Bantams sacked manager Stuart McCall on Sunday after six successive defeats in all competitions which has left them 22nd in the table.

Woodgate, who has been out of work since leaving Boro in June, is the 2/1 favourite with SkyBet to be appointed at Valley Parade, with former Sunderland and Brandford boss Phil Parkinson the second favourite at 3/1.

Jones proud of Luton team

Finally, Boro’s next opponents, Luton, also claimed a convincing win on Saturday.

The Hatters beat Preston 3-0 at Kenilworth Road to move up to 11th in the table.

Manager Nathan Jones said: “Preston had the best away record in the league, they’re a side that know what they’re doing, they have very good players, and they are a real difficult side to play against. For us to win the game in the manner we did, I’m very proud of the team.

“I think they had one or two half chances. Preston are a good side, I watched them midweek and they scored three against Middlesbrough, so it shows they’re a good side.

“I’m very pleased with the performance, how we pressed, our desire to win the game. That was key because the Championship is relentless week-in, week-out.”
