Boro have made just one change to the side which drew 1-1 with Bournemouth last weekend, with Akpom replacing Ashley Fletcher who limped off against the Cherries and isn’t in the squad.

Fans were predictably excited about seeing their new frontman in action – here’s how some reacted online.

@Gibson_Is_King: McNair has GOT to be in midfield. Should be the first name on the sheet. Either Fry or Howson at CB is need be, but we need paddy to drive us forward.

@Smithy_MFC84: Looking forward to seeing how @cakpom gets on, I think him and Britt could prove to be a handful for QPR’s shaky defence, just a shame it’s at the expense of Fletcher being injured.

@CaineUTB: Scenes if Akpom scores

@Fraser2299: Chuba masterclass inbound

@smoggyontour86: Let’s see how the new lad does, no Fletcher I thought he was ok.

@HazelClay: First start for Akpom. Come on lad show us what you can do

@RedsOnlyFriends: Isn’t Morsey fit? Just wondered because I’d be available to keep a seat warm for a considerably lower wage. I’ve got my own mask and everything, I’d be no bother.

@DaveRennie77: Paddy & Djiksteel have been our best players at the back so far, I’d rather McNair play CB than Howson or Fry, although I agree we miss him in midfield, just shows we need players in I guess

@DanSmithForTees: Best team we could put out. Interesting to see the new lad. Come on Boro!
