Middlesbrough were eliminated from the Carabao Cup after a 2-0 defeat by Barnsley at the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Teessiders made seven changes following Friday’s defeat at Watford, with manager Neil Warnock keen to look at some of his fringe and younger players.
Yet first-half goals from Patrick Schmidt and Jordan Williams saw Barnsley progress to the third round of the competition, setting up a trip to Chelsea next week.
